[ Well he texted Nancy and that was basically useless other than maybe endangering her by getting her caught up in all this. This is why Steve shouldn't take a murdering psycho's advice. His following text comes roughly an hour later when him and Nancy have had enough time for a little back and forth. ]
I did, and she told me some fun stuff. She also told me to break your camera, and I actually have some experience there.
[ He's bluffing, she didn't give him much to work with but he's just gonna play this risky. ]

You should be looking for my mask, not wondering what's underneath it.
[ as seconds grow into minutes, the lack of response or retort from Steve makes Danny curious, but he doesn't spend much time dwelling on it. For all he knows, Steve just got pulled into a trial and now has something more urgent to worry about than an unwise conversation with one of his regular murderers. Nothing Danny needs to wait on.
But once Steve's reply does arrive, his follows almost immediately. ]
Did she? That's not very good advice.
What makes you think I'll let you get anywhere near my camera?
How about a little of both? Once I find it, I can find the creep underneath a little bit easier.
[ That reply comes after Steve has texted Nance. Finding the mask would be hard, to his knowledge, Ghost Face isn't blessed by the Entity with a place he can call his own, unlike most of the other killers. But Steve is determined now, since this whole thing is starting to annoy him, and Nancy is involved too now. ]
I'm not much one for taking good advice, Ghosty. So I think I'll try for forgiveness over permission.
And there better not be any naked photos of yourself on it.
[ Steve doesn't really need the camera, but finding it can't hurt. Anything that brings him closer to figuring out the guy in the shitty goth robes is good by him. Hopefully he can get some leverage before Ghost Face harms him, or much much worse, Nance. ]
[ Steve mutters "sick fucking creep" immediately under his breath before sending the following message. He figured that's what Ghost Face did with his camera, but wasn't expecting him to be so creepy about it right off the bat. ]
What kind of photos are you snapping of us anyway? They any good?
[ Steve thinks of Cheryl having pics taken of her without her consent and his blood boils a bit under the surface of his skin, but he has to play it cool. No use in giving Ghost Face the satisfaction he so clearly wants. ]
[ like his face, Danny doesn't intend on showing Steve any of his collection. But for Steve to ask, there has to be some interest on his part. Some curiosity, even if spiked with dislike. That's all someone needs to become part of an audience. ]

Yeah that's a bold claim, even if there's only like one other photographer here.
[ He is at least pretty sure Zarina does photography... ]
If you really are the best photographer, then show me your best work. Asshole.
[ Maybe controlling himself is in his best interest right now, and he can work on making Ghost Face lose that fucking annoying cool calm collectedness he always seems to have.]
'Best' is subjective. In my experience, people appreciate my work more if they have a personal connection to it. So I'll rephrase: who would you be interested in seeing?
And try not to say yourself. No one likes a narcissist.
[ Steve so desperately wants to say Cheryl, the girl he loves to his very core. If she's on that camera, Steve wants to know. Needs to know. And she probably is, but Steve doesn't need him knowing that he has such a huge potential weakness. ]
Narcissist? This coming from the guy who's signature kill is fuckin selfies? [ Steve being from the 80's does not understand the appeal of them. ]
Alright, what about Kate or Nancy?
[ He came here with Nancy because he was trying to protect her, it's obvious to everyone that they care about each other, and Ghost Face definitely already knows that much. And Kate and him are close friends too, that's hard to hide. ]
[ Danny lets the comment about selfies go without remark. Photographing himself with his victims is narcissism, but he doubts Steve will understand just how deep that compulsion goes. He skips to the next message. Kate or Nancy… well, of course. They’re Steve’s friends. One visit to the campfire, one trial had been enough to tell Danny that. A predictable choice.
You shouldn’t have chosen at all, Steve. ]
Sure.
[ laid out on a nondescript background, the two photographs in the picture he sends are a study in contrasts. They show Nancy in profile picking flowers somewhere in the woods and Kate dancing by the campfire. Nancy’s peaceful pose and her white sweater make the colorful blooms around her stand out all the more despite the pale moonlight. The darkness of Kate’s tank top draws the eye to her and her outstretched limbs, frozen in sharp focus while tinged in golden firelight.
Both of them look like they’re just within arm’s—knife’s—reach, yet neither appear aware of the scrutiny. Or maybe they are. It’s hard to read their expressions when their faces are blurred out. Ghostly. Almost violent hazes of flesh, with dark smudges for eyes and mouths. ]
What do you think?
entity should bless steeb with a shovel, so he can dig this grave deeper.
[ If Steve was thinking straight he might not have chosen, but now he's just angry, and if he's honest, somewhat scared, for his friends. But he's making this bed, and now he intends to sleep in it.
When the pictures come in, its like a spark ignites a tanker of gasoline inside his chest. Is Ghost Face really able to get so close to the survivors without them noticing? And what is he doing there? Steve cautiously looks around for a moment, as he's in the forest right now himself. He doesn't see anything, but it doesn't stop his hair from raising on his neck.
Somewhere in the back of Steve's mind, he notices that the narcissism comment went ignored, and he can't allow Ghost Face to know that he's terrified right now. So he decides to take a moment to send him a well thought out reply. ]
Is this supposed to be good? I mean the subjects, they're beautiful, but these pics? They're ass. You know, I knew someone who took stalker pics like these before, and now he's halfway decent working for a small town newspaper, maybe you'll improve too.
[ Maybe not the brightest move to taunt, but he's not exactly thinking clearly, and wants to get rid of this feeling of crushing vulnerability. ]
[ Danny smiles as he reads Steve's reply. Small-town newspaper... if only he knew just how the ones that employed him couldn't get enough of his photos once he started his real work. The taunting doesn't bother him at all; he more or less expected a reaction like that. And it's not like anyone else's opinion actually matters to him. ]
So I should practice more? Experiment with my style?
[ he doesn't; Danny's nowhere near Steve right now. But he wouldn't know that if he's really alone as he says he is. ]
But I'd rather wait for a trial. I'll have much more to work with then. And who knows -- we might even get lucky and get the opportunity for some sunset shots if it's Glenvale.
[ He figures he's being messed with, but takes a quick sweep of the area just in case. No sign of him or his robe, but that doesn't mean much. Oh well, he just replies to the second text. ]
Or maybe some snow-lit shots in Ormond, everyone loves a good Christmas card, and there would make for a great one.
[ The Nancy/Kate jabs are starting to wear Steve a little thin, and just leave a dull ember of anger burning in his head, almost like a light headache. Nothing would satisfy Steve more than out-sneaking Ghost Face in their next trial together, so he'd get get at him then. Maybe even with that ever-so-satisfying hatch escape. So he just sends his last response for now.]

But if you're so curious, why don't you ask Nancy? She knows -- apparently.
[ she doesn't ( and he never intends for her to find out ) but some of her remarks were a little too right, a little too bold for his liking. ]
